Amy Battista

I have been coaching figure skating since 1992. I have coached skaters of all ages through the USFS levels of Senior Moves in the Field and Novice Freeskating. I skated competitively as a child for 6 years as an individual skater and was a member of our club’s Senior Precision Team (now known as synchronized skating).

I am the proud coach of the 2014 Upper Great Lakes Open PreJuvenile Ladies Regional Champion, the 2014 Upper Great Lakes PrePreliminary Test Boys Regional Champion, and the 2015 Upper Great Lakes Preliminary Test Ladies Regional Champion! I have also coached numerous Regional competitors and Regional Finalists, with podium placements in 2001, 2010, 2014, & 2015. In addition, I have coached several State Games of America National Champions in 1999, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2013, as well as the Artist Recall Champions in both the Entertainment and Dramatic categories at the 2015 Fox Cities Invitational.

I was the Director of Skating for SWFSC from 2003-2015. I served on the club’s board of directors as the Learn to Skate Liaison and I was the chairperson for the club’s annual basic skills competition for many years. I have a bachelor’s degree from The University of Wisconsin-Madison in Child and Family Studies, and I am a certified teacher, grades Pre-K to 3. I taught preschool on the UW campus for 9 years. I feel that my background in education and my experience working with children highlight my coaching strengths. I understand that everyone learns in different ways and I am very good at breaking things down and explaining them. I am patient and caring but can also give skaters that “push” that they need to be successful at reaching their goals. I regularly attend coaching seminars, work with and observe National and International level coaches, and strive to keep myself up to date with the sport and to better myself as a coach. You can never stop learning!

I am a registered coach with US Figure Skating, a member of the Professional Skaters Association, and I am certified in first aid and CPR for the professional rescuer. I love teaching and working with children and adults to help them learn. I am a strong believer that everyone can enjoy the sport of figure skating whether their goals are to be a highly competitive skater, or just simply to learn a new skill. I will give 100% of my effort to help every skater reach their individual goals regardless of how big or small those goals may be. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, attending sporting events and concerts, camping, canoeing, and spending time with my 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

I am currently living in Florida and coaching with the Panthers Figure Skating Club in Coral Springs, but am back in the Madison Area frequently. I am available for lessons and/or choreography upon request when in town. Feel free to contact me to see when I am going to be in town. Of course, visitors to South Florida are always welcome! We have a beautiful 3 rink facility here!
